Wood Privacy Fencing
A wood privacy fence is solid, side-by-side boards, usually 6 ft, that fully screen a yard from the street or a neighbor. It is the most common style for an in-town Brevard lot that wants a private back yard.
What it's built from
Pressure-treated southern yellow pine is the standard treated wood species and grade for above-ground and ground-contact fence use in Florida. Properly treated and detailed — capped rails, sealed end-grain at cuts — it performs well; it is also the material most exposed to Florida's humidity, UV and rot cycle if that detailing and periodic maintenance (staining or sealing) are skipped.
The trade-offs
Full privacy and a familiar look are the draw. Against that: a solid board panel catches more wind load per square foot than an open style like aluminum picket or chain link, and it is the style with the most upkeep over time — wood asks for maintenance that aluminum don't.
